Charles Michael Behrendt  Charles Michael “Mike” Behrendt, born November 9, 1955, in Chicago, IL, passed away on January 19, 2026 at his home in Decatur, AL.

Charles, known to most as Mike or Michael, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years (1973-1993), a reflection of his loyalty, dedication, strength, and commitment to his country and his family. After military service, he spent his final 13 working years at Wayne Farms before retirement.

Mike was the loving husband of Susan Behrendt, his wife of 40 years. Together they built a life rooted in love, perseverance, and family. He was a proud father to his sons Justin Behrendt (Kristi Marlin), David Behrendt, and daughter, Tricia Engels. He was a cherished grandfather to Taylor Engels (Carl Dean Williams), Christian Seals, Kaiden Seals, and Zoie Seals, and a beloved great-grandfather to Sekhani Micheal, who brought him immense joy.

Mike is survived by his sisters Kimberly, Toni, and Kelly. He was preceded in death by his sister Terri and his mother Christine.

To his family, Mike was their “Mr. Make It Happen”, the one who always found a way, fixed what was broken, and showed up when it mattered most. He had a deep love for the beach, where he found peace searching for shells and enjoying the simple beauty of the ocean. Above all else, Mike loved his family fiercely and completely.

Though he is gone, his spirit, guidance, and “make it happen” love will live on in the hearts of his family forever. May he now find peace by the shore, where the waves are gentle and the shells are endless.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Shelton Funeral Home had the Honor of assisting the family.
