Mary Long, 78, of Huntsville passed away on December 26th, 2025. Mary was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee and was raised in Fayetteville, Tennessee. She was proceeded in death by her parents Jessie Lee Jones Farrar and John William Farrar, Jr. and her husband, Charles “Chuck” Long.

Mary graduated from Central High School in Fayetteville in 1965 and earned her bachelor’s, in 1969, at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. After several years of teaching in Huntsville, she went on to earn her master’s in library science from Peabody in 1973. She became the librarian at Chaffee Elementary School where she served until her retirement in 2013, after teaching in the Huntsville City School System for forty-one years.

Mary was passionate about equestrian sports and loved riding horses, having first gained interest in the 4H club in high school. She was an advocate for history and was active in her local DAR chapter. She was also a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, where she served as a Stephen’s Minister for many years.

She is survived by her son Stephen Long and Chuck’s children, Vanessa Love and Eric Long.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 5, 2026 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church followed by the service at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fayetteville.
