Notice for John Barry  Thompson

John Barry Thompson, 78, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was born August 6, 1947, in Memphis, to Emory Orville and Gladys Faye Turner Thompson. He was and Army Vietnam Combat War Veteran, and he retired from the National Guard. He was a carpenter, and he enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. He loved the outdoors where he was a hunter, fisherman, trapper, and a gun enthusiast. He also was an avid genealogist, and he formerly enjoyed buying and selling on eBay. He was a dedicated Christian and was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, at the Shiloh Community Church with Bro. Henry Jenkins, Jerry Donald Thompson, Bro. Bobby Humphres, and Bro. Jay Thompson officiating. Military Rites will be performed. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, John Barry “Bubba” Thompson, Jr. (Paula), and Daniel Umfress (Carrie), both of Mantachie; three daughters, Carrie Thompson Buse (Terry) of Mantachie, Robin Bailey of Guntown, and Jennifer Hallman of Huntsville; two brothers, Jerry Donald Thompson (Pam), and Willie Thompson (Alice), both of Mantachie; 15 grandchildren, Kirsten Hallmark, Joey Eldridge, Shelby Mullins, Michaela Kuchenmeister, John Allan Thompson, Jared Thompson, Charlie Thompson, Deklan Whitaker, Jacob Bailey, Dalton Umfress, Belle Cooper, Branten Umfress, Brinley Umfress, Ian Umfress, and Kennedie Storey; 18 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Emory Orville Thompson, Jr., and two infant brothers, Randy and Joe Perry; one grandson, Kason Umfress; and his parents.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Turner, Josh Jones, Tom Jones, Joe Rogers, Phillip Cantrell, Tommy Ferguson, Brad Underwood, and Coonie Massey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Bean, Harold Holcomb, Donnie Jones, Terry Jones, Henry Jenkins, Larry Bates, David Cates, Donnie Cates, Jerry Wilburn, Bubba Ramey, Joe Smith, and Jack Henry Rogers.

Visitation will be Monday, December 29m from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time, all at the Shiloh Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John Barry’s name to the Mantachie FFA, 310 Mustang Drive, Mantachie, MS 38855.
