Norma Jean Alden McCarley age 82, passed peacefully in her home on Christmas Day 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born June 28th 1943 to Claude and Marie Alden in Baltimore, MD. Norma had four siblings Sue Coleman, Marvin (Jr) Winesett, Sharon Trimble and Claudette Flack who have all proceeded her in death and whom she loved very much.
Norma married her husband Daniel McCarley May 16, 1960 in Maryland. They celebrated 63 years of marriage together before his passing in August of 2023. Norma loved her husband very much and devoted her life to caring for him.
Norma had two children, Danny McCarley (1961-1995) and Deborah Cook, as well as two granddaughters Courtney McCarley Martin and Baily Payne. Norma loved her children and their spouses dearly. Son in laws: Toby Cook and his son Rob Cook, Matthew Martin, and Justin Payne.
Norma has many beloved nieces and nephews all of whom she spoke of and prayed for often. Including her special niece, Sheila Ergle, who helped care for her through the years. Norma was a Christian and a member of Bear Creek #1 Church. Where she was a Sunday school teacher, enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in various church activities. Norma worked at the Haleyville Drapery for 38 years where she mastered the craft of sewing and built many lifelong friendships.
Norma was known for her incredible cooking and thoughtfulness. Norma took note of her friends and family’s favorite recipes and loved to cook for others. Norma also enjoyed fishing, shopping, antiquing, and going to yard sales. Norma loved to visit her family in Virginia and going to the beach with her daughter and granddaughters. Norma was generous, thoughtful, and kind. She dedicated her life to God, caring for her family and loving others. Norma donated to research and finding a cure for ALS after her son Danny passed from the disease in 1995.
Norma loved her daughter Deb and granddaughters Courtney and Baily very much .“Her Girls” meant the world to Norma and she never let them forget it.
Services held Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Bear Creek #1 Baptist Church with Burial in the Winston Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Adam Hyde and Bro. Richard Crumpton officiating.
