Lois MatthewsLois York Matthews, age 91, passed away on December 2, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Lois lived a life grounded in faith, kindness, and devotion. A committed and cherished member of Calvary Baptist Church in Scottsboro and First Baptist Church in Trussville, she worshipped faithfully and found strength, purpose, and lifelong friendship within her church families. Her dedication to serving the Lord was a defining part of her life and character.

She was known for her gentle spirit, warm heart, and unwavering love for those around her. Her legacy is one of hospitality, grace, compassion, and steadfast devotion to her family and faith.

Lois is survived by her children, Pam Matthews and Rita and Jeff Wyatt, and her grandson, Matt Wyatt, all of whom brought great joy and pride to her life. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen Brown of Chickamauga GA, brother Rev Bill York of Albertville AL, and many other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Proctor Matthews, and her parents, Abner and Ola Koger York, whom she now joins in eternal rest. She was also preceded in death by seven of her siblings.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 1pm at Scottsboro Funeral Home where friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of her life. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at Noon. A Birmingham area celebration of life service will be Monday, December 8, 2025 at 11am in the Chapel at FBC Trussville with visitation at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Scottsboro, honoring Lois’s lifelong commitment to her faith and church family.
