Wayne Huston Smith, age 71 of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at his residence. A native of Franklin County, he was born on January 12, 1954, in Winchester to the late Charles H. and Laura (Vaughan) Smith. Wayne married the love of his life, Sue Smith, on May 11, 1975. A proud American, he retired from the United States Air Force, after serving at bases in Sumter, South Carolina, Upper Heyford, England, Seymour Johnson, North Carolina, and Bergstron Air Force Base in Texas. After returning home to Tennessee, he worked for the City of Cowan Water Department and at the University of the South. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as camping and travel. But most of all, Wayne cherished the time spent with his beloved family and loved to cook for them. He loved to cut-up and laugh with family and friends, but will most be remembered for his big heart and willingness to lend a hand. A devoted Christian, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Cowan, where he served as deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Smith; and daughter, Tisha Smith. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Sue Smith; children, Eric (Alica) Smith, Kendall Smith, and Carsyn Smith; grandchildren, Isabella Smith and Zachary Smith; and brother, Chuck Smith. A private Celebration of Life is planned. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 First Ave NW, Winchester, TN 37398, (931)-967-2222
