Hip was born July 29, 1953, but his life didn’t begin until July 21, 1995, when he gave his life to his Lord and Savior. If you knew him before then, you knew what his life was like.
His 2 kids and 2 grandkids made his eyes light up just to talk about them. The last years that he was able he enjoyed working with lawnmowers. The people that didn’t know him by Hip knew him as the “Lawnmower Man.”
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Smallwood; parents, Alvin and Mildred Smallwood; and brothers, Glen, Jimmy, Larry, and Jerrell.
He is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Donna Smallwood; son, Zachery Smallwood; grandchildren, Conno
r and Aubrey DeMorse; brothers, Billy and Rodney Smallwood; and sister, Carolyn Tyra.
Pallbearers are Zachery Smallwood, Dustin Ayers, Daniel Scott, Jeffery Smallwood, Rodney Smallwood, and Billy Smallwood.
The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Paul Morris, Dr. A, and the staff of NAMC Hospital, and to the many doctors and nurses at UAB for all the wonderful care he received.
