Willard Springer Funeral service for Willard Springer age 86 of Hartselle will be Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 11:00am at New Center Baptist Church with Brother Ben Bates officiating with burial in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will from 9:00am until service time on Tuesday at the Church.

 

Mr. Springer, who was born January 26, 1939, in Decatur, Alabama to Ollis Springer and Roberta Royer Springer, died on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

 

He was a member of New Center Baptist Church, a proud United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. Willard was an accomplished woodworker, had worked for many years at the Fruehauf Company in Decatur and later retired from General Electric where he worked in the maintenance department. He was affectionately known by his co-workers as “Mr. Widget” or “Jaybird”, by because he was an excellent welder and made widgets out of scrap nuts, washers, bolts, and scrap parts and would give them to the workers.

 

He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He always made life fun for everyone that he was around. He had an infectious laugh, told great stories and was never without a smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Mavine Springer, a grandson; Trey Frazier, and a sister; Peggy Nelms.

 

He is survived by:

 

Daughter:                              Sonya Springer Groves (Daniel)

 

Sister:                                     Janice Moses

 

2 Grandchildren:                  Bella Campbell (Zach) and Will Frazier (Hannah)

 

3 Great-Grandchildren:       Greyson Frazier, Amelia Campbell, and Colter Campbell
