TUSCUMBIA: Singing River Literacy Council will host beloved storyteller Dolores Hydock on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 11 am as part of Tuscumbia’s It’s a Dickens Christmas, Y’all festival.
Dolores will present No Humbug: The Surprising Story Behind the Creation of a Christmas Carol at 11 am in the Tuscumbia Utilities Auditorium on 6th Street.

“This wonderful festival makes you feel like you’ve dropped into the middle of A Christmas Carol,” Hydock said. “I’m thrilled to return to Tuscumbia with an up-close-and-personal peek into the inspiration behind that beloved story.”
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online through EventBrite, at the Colbert County Tourism office or at the door.
“We are delighted to welcome Dolores back to Tuscumbia to enjoy her captivating stories about Charles Dickens and how he crafted the Christmas story that has warmed the hearts of generations of readers,” said Dr. Lorie Johnson, president of Singing River Literacy Council. “We are so honored that Dolores wrote this presentation just for us, and we so admire the meticulous research that she pours into these storytelling sessions. We invite everyone to join us and learn how Dickens’ 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol, was born.”
