Rex Horton Westmoreland, 87, of Fort Payne, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 7, 1938, in Fyffe, Alabama, to the late George L. and Rowena Posey Westmoreland. He was the owner of Fort Payne Finance and was a longtime board member of the Alabama Lenders Association. He was ordained as a deacon in 1967 at Second Baptist Church where he faithfully served for many years before becoming a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Payne.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. Pat McFadden officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service. The family is accepting flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Lodge #437, PO Box 680254, Fort Payne, AL 35968.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Patsy Faye Faulkner Westmoreland; children Sherry Gulledge (David), Shelia Kerby (Chip), Rex H. Westmoreland, II, and John Westmoreland (Pam); brother Edward Westmoreland (LeEarl); sister Phiba Higgins; and a host of grandchildren, great-children, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ned I. Westmoreland and brother-in-law Rev. Fred Higgins.
Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of services.
