Donald Floyd “Coyote” Haynes, age 74 passed away at 11:40am on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham, Al. Born on July 2, 1951, in Jefferson, Alabama, he lived a life marked by hard work, storytelling, and deep devotion to his family.
Known affectionately by his trucking nickname “Coyote” Donald spent many years behind the wheel as a truck driver. His career took him across countless miles of American highways, and he was always eager to share tales from the road. His stories- often filled with humor and grit- reflected not only his experiences but also his enduring love for the open road.
Donald’s early education extended through the sixth grade, after which he entered the workforce and began building a life rooted in dedication and perseverance. He was a proud father of two sons and a grandfather to six grandchildren. His family remembers him as a loving father and grandfather who found joy in their company and pride in their accomplishments.
He is survived by his sons; Jerry Floyd Haynes and wife Toni, and Jimmy Lee Haynes and wife Jennifer; his ex-wife Marsha Diane Hemphill; his brother James Phillip Haynes; sisters; Alice Fay Cordell and Linda Ann Minor; grandchildren; Justin Dewayne Haynes, Tosha Michell Haynes, Matthew Lee Haynes, Kayla Marie Haynes, Connor William Haynes, and Jasmine Faith Monroe Haynes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held him dear.
Donald was preceded in death by his father; Therman Floyd Haynes; his mother; Margaret Christine Haynes; and brother; Johnnie Ray Haynes.
Outside of work and family life, Donald enjoyed playing games and golf. He also found spiritual grounding in the Baptist faith.
A funeral service will be held at Bell Funeral Home chapel in Sumiton on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 11:00am, the visitation will be Monday, October 27, 2025 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. Burial will be at Shanghi Cemetery. Lanny Sartain will officiate.
