LEIGHTON-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports a single-vehicle accident near Leighton that has taken the life of one person:
“A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. Thursday, October 16, has claimed the life of a Leighton man.
Howard C. Staggs, 44, was critically injured when the 2020 Chrysler 300 that he was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert, a utility pole, a tree and then overturned. Staggs was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased while at the hospital. Staggs was not using a seat belt at the time of crash.
The crash occurred on Alabama 20 near Pruitt Drive, approximately one mile west of Leighton, in Colbert County.
Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
