Bobbi Jean Methvin
March 24, 1945 – October 10, 2025
Bobbie Jean McGovern, born 24 March 1945 in Shelby, Bolivar County, Mississippi, passed away 10 October 2025 after a long illness with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 80 years old. Bobbie was the youngest child of Willis James and Jennie Berryhill McGovern. Bobbie was a true Delta girl where she loved playing barefoot in the Delta dirt, and rolling on the grass with a pack of puppies. She loved puppies so much that her family called her Duppy. She was active in school, where she played basketball, was in the Homecoming Court, and was a cheerleader. To her teachers and school friends, she was and still is Bobbie Jean. In later years, she was known and loved as Miss Bobbie, and her chocolate pies are still talked about at family gathering’s.
Bobbie retired after working twenty-eight years for BellSouth Telecommunications as a customer service representative. After her retirement, she worked several years at Fincher’s Gifts and Antiques in Greenwood, Mississippi. Bobbie was a Christian, she loved her children, grandchildren, Christmas, giving, helping others, and she had a good eye for interior decorating. She was a kind, and generous soul, who was easy to
love.
After a long and productive life in the Mississippi Delta, Bobbie and her husband Glenn relocated Owens Cross Roads, Alabama in 2013 to be close to family.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, and two older brothers, Billy James McGovern of Fort Stockton Texas, and Guy Doyle McGovern of Lubbock, Texas. She is survived by her husband Glenn Methvin of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, and three
sons and daughter-in-laws Jeff and Cecilia Gartman Methvin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mike and Laurie French Methvin of Vienna, Virginia, and Lee and Amiee Mock Methvin of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, one sister Jo Ann Myers of Brownsboro, Alabama and one sister-in-law Wanda McGovern of Fort Stockton, Texas, eight grandchildren, Sean and Aislinn Methvin of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jack and Harper Methvin of Vienna, Virginia, and Eli, Grant, Isaac, and Evangeline Methvin of Owens Cross roads, Alabama. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A grave side service will be held by Commander, Chaplin Corps, USN (Ret) Thomas Johnson in Bobbie’s honor on 25 October 2025 at 11:00 in the Hampton Cove Cemetery, 6262 Highway 431S, Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to New Salem Baptist Church, 314 James Road SE, Owens Cross Roads, Alabama 35763.
