Michael Eugene Engelking, 78, of Gurley, passed away Saturday. Born in Seymour, IN, the oldest of eight children, he graduated in 1965 from North Vernon High School. He received bachelor’s degrees from Purdue University, Baptist College of Charleston, and North Carolina Wesleyan University. He married Brenda Branstetter in 1966.
Mike was employed with Cummins Engine Company for 37 years. In 1977, he moved to Charleston, SC, with Cummins, and in 1985, transferred to Rocky Mount, NC, where he retired in 2002. Following retirement, he moved to Huntsville to do consulting work.
A devout Christian for over 70 years, Mike loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ above all. He was an active member of Willowbrook Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and family. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating with his sons and grandsons. He loved Alabama football and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Florence Engelking. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Brenda Branstetter Engelking; sons, Tim Engelking (Jennifer), Kevin Engelking, and Tony Engelking (Jennifer); grandchildren, Dillon (Stacy), Emily, Thomas (Logan), Payton (Geneviève), and Brady; siblings, Mary Easter (Dave), Linda Elkins (Skip), Davied Engelking, Steve Engelking, Connie Satterwhite (Gary) Rebecca Powell, and Kelly Engelking; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends in the Lighthouse Group at Willowbrook Church.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2024, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm at Willowbrook Church, 7625 Bailey Cove Road, Huntsville, AL 35802. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Edinburgh, IN.
