Janet Hooper Varner A Memorial service for Janet Hooper Varner, 73, will be Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Abundant Life Ministries Church with Bishop Dr. Ronnie Powell officiating and Peck Funeral Home assisting the family.  No visitation is scheduled.

Mrs. Varner passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at her residence.  She was born May 23, 1952, in Jefferson County,  to Homer Hooper and Signa Mae Hooper, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Varner was employed in Real Estate and as a Music teacher, prior to her retirement. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Masters in Music.  She was a devout Christian, served as the church pianist, organist, and Choir director. She was a member of the Decatur Music Club, a student of Theology, and prison ministry as a spiritual class leader. Janet enjoyed weekly time with spiritual yoga group, “her spiritual sisters”, loved spending time in nature, traveling, camping, and exploring. She was an avid reader and music enthusiast. She also was a loving wife, proud mother and grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include

Husband – Rev. Dr. David D. Varner,

Sons – Richard Dodson,
Bradley Varner, and
Grant Varner,

Daughter – Jennifer Blevins,

Sister – Judy H. Blackwell (Ken),

Grandchildren –  Kayla, Bailey, Maddie, Riley, Hunner, and Jaxton,

and Three Great Grandchildren

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to Abundant Life Ministries@ P.O. Box 1165, Decatur, AL 35602. Donations will be used for the Prison Ministries and Feeding the Hungry.
