Joe D. Atkins, age 85 of Carbon Hill, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Walker Baptist Medical Center.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at McDade Cemetery. Bro. Dwight Bailey, Bro. Charlie Kidd and Bro. TJ Armstrong will officiate.
Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his Parents-Mose & Ruth Atkins; Father-in-law & Mother-in-law-Glenn & Lucille Sartain; Grandparents & Great Grandparents; Sisters & Brothers-Louise Kimbrell, Nancy Sanders, Margie Atkins, Aaron Atkins and Ralph Atkins; Sister-in-law-Bernice Atkins; Brothers-in-law-Leo Kimbrell and William Sanders; Niece-Sharon Atkins Prescott; Nephew-James Leo Kimbrell Jr.
He is survived by his Wife-Debra Sartain Atkins; Children-Kristy (Jonathan) McGinnis, Angie (Michael) Threadgill, Teresa (Galen) Hall, Vickie (Dennis) Bowels and Karen Atkins; Special Twin Brother-Jack Atkins; Special Sister-Wilma Brown; Sister-in-law-Joyce Atkins; Grandchildren- Brandon & Brittney, Megan & Josh, Amy & Justin, Landon & Jessica, Brittney, Adam, Taylor & Prater, Tiffany & Jacob, Eric & Casey, Carson & Ricki-Jill, Anna & Jacob, Sara & Sergio, Hope, Chloe & Braden, Samuel & Karley, Neveah, Sawyer; 14 Great Grandchildren. He also survived many family members, many, many friends and special Coal Miners at Mary Lee #2 and Shoal Creek.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Martin, Eric McGinnis, Carson McGinnis, Samuel Aaron, Adam Hammersley, Landon Herron, Tyler Atkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cooper, Carter, Noah, Branson, Tiden, Hudson.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kyle Packer, Jessica Jones, CRNP, Dr. Dean Naden, and Justin Bates, CRNP for their exceptional care, guidance, and support. A sincere thank you as well to all the dedicated employees at WBMC, especially those in the IMC Unit, for your compassion and professionalism. We are also deeply grateful to the team at Clearview Cancer Center for their unwavering commitment and kindness throughout this journey.
