Kenneth "Freddy" Jones Kenneth Ferrell “Freddy” Jones, born on June 1, 1955, at Caraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, passed away on August 31, 2025, at Ridgeview Nursing Home in Jasper, Alabama.

At just six weeks old, Freddy’s family relocated from their home in Twilleytown, Alabama—built by his father and uncles in 1950—to Jacksonville, Florida. His first-grade teacher at Highlands Elementary was his own mother.

Freddy graduated from University Christian School in June 1973 and soon began a long and dedicated career with CSX Railroad. He started as a Bridge Tender at the Trout River Bridge on Main Street in Jacksonville. In 1989, he was deployed to Charleston, South Carolina, as part of the CSX railroad crossing signals restoration team following the devastation of Hurricane Hugo. For his exceptional work under challenging conditions, Freddy received a commendation from CSX, thanking him for his “dedication and hard work under the most difficult of conditions.”

In 1990, Freddy was promoted to Signal Maintainer for CSX in Birmingham, Alabama, allowing him to return to his original home in Twilleytown, where he eventually retired. He had a love for reading, attending gun shows, and spending holidays with his neighbors, the Green family, who embraced him as one of their own.

Freddy was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Garfield Jones and Dicy Ensor Jones.

He is survived by his devoted partner of over 35 years, Louise Williams, whose love and companionship deeply enriched his life. He is also survived by his sister, Katie Jones Stewart (James G. Stewart), and brother, Norman Terrell “Teddy” Jones (Sharon E. Jones); nephews, Matthew B. Humphrey and Adam T. Jones; and niece, Meredith Lee Brewer. Freddy also shared a treasured bond with Jason Williams and Noah Alexander, whom he considered like sons.

During his final years, Freddy faced cancer with quiet strength, supported by the tireless care and love of Louise and her siblings, who considered him family, as well as his sister, Katie and brother, Teddy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bell Funeral Home in Sumiton, AL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Shanghi Memorial Cemetery in Quinton, AL. Elder Charles Kitchens will officiate.
