James Medford Letson “Med” “Jim”, 79, of Moulton died Sunday, May 26, 2013. He was born January 8, 1934.

Funeral will be Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Becker and Calvin Jones officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Jim was a retired teacher for the State of Georgia Prison System. He started as a correctional officer and was able to complete a master’s degree in education with a teaching certificate for K-12. He was certified in sign language and Spanish. As a young married man, he was an active member of Smyrna Baptist Church until he moved with his family to Chicago. During this time he was a diesel mechanic for Greyhound. Later he became a cross country truck driver for Mayflower and then Northwest. He sold insurance and was a coffee salesman. Jim loved his dogs, fishing and gardening. He was also an entrepreneur of sorts because he loved buying and selling property. He owned two mobile home parks and an apartment building. He loved speculating in the stock market, investing in small business ventures and collecting coins. After his retirement, Jim sold his business in Georgia and moved to Moulton to be closer to his children.

He is survived by one son, Harold Letson(Judy) of Moulton; two daughters, Glenda Turner (Terry) of Chalybeate and Peggy Hamilton (Philip) of Caddo; five sisters, Zola Fetz (Lonnie) and Vernell Blevins, both of Jeffersonville, Ind., Sylvia Turner of Gary, Ill., Flora Bradford (James) of Caddo and Lassie Hobbs (Hippie) of Chalybeate; two brothers, Willie Letson of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Matthais Letson (Carolyn) of Caddo. Jim was also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Med was preceded in death by his parents, Madison and Bertha Kelley Letson; his brother, Billy Joe Letson; his sister, Mamie Letson Pepper; and two wives, Hazel Lang Letson and Goldie Yokem Letson.

Pallbearers will be Adam Turner, Anthony Hamilton, Charles Cobb, Austin Hooli, Shannon Letson, Chris Letson and Brian Letson.
