Arnold “Buck” Edward Alexander passed away at home in Nicholasville, Kentucky on Saturday morning, August 16, 2025. He was born on December 9, 1933, in Bear Creek, Alabama to Alvin and Rosa Alexander.
Buck was a man of great faith who will be remembered for his dedication to God, his wife, his family, and friends. He will also be remembered for his beautiful prayers, well-manicured lawn, amazing garden, especially his silver queen sweet corn and purple hull peas, singing and teaching his grandchildren how to draw birds and characters, and taking them on adventures. He was strong, caring, kind, authentic, and shared words of encouragement and wisdom whenever he spoke, while also being unexpectedly funny.
Following graduation from Phillips High School in Bear Creek, AL Buck earned his BS degree in Business at Louisiana State University where he lettered in football for the Fighting Tigers in 1954 and 1955 and honored as a member of the “L” Club. Upon graduation, He joined the U.S Air Force as a Pilot in training, where he attained the rank of Captain. He then spent his career in Management at Reynolds Metals Co. in Listerhill, Alabama, as well as Malvern, Arkansas and Longview, Washington. For over five decades, he and Barbara were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church and Howard Jaggers Sunday School Class in Sheffield, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Rosa; sister Era Alexander, sister Mildred McAllister, brother Joe Alexander (Dot), brother Jimmy Alexander, and sister Dot Turberville (Travis); as well as brother-in-law, Ravinell Wilson.
Buck is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Brook Alexander; his daughter, Alyson Irons (Charles) of Lexington, KY; his son, Kyle Alexander (Catherine) of Bentonville, AR; grandson, Charley Irons (Holly) of Ft. Worth, TX, granddaughter, Ashlyn Irons of Cincinnati, OH, granddaughter, Abigail Alexander of Fayetteville, AR and granddaughter, Helana Alexander of Fayetteville AR. He is also survived by his sister, Francis Wilson of Muscle Shoals, AL.
Buck is also survived by brother-in-law, Stan Brook (Nell) and sister-in-law, Rose Alexander; many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, and great-great nieces & nephews on both sides of his family; and friends from Church and the community.
A graveside service will be held at Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Feet International at /samaritansfeet.org/donate/general/, the United Way of Northwest Alabama at
