Mrs. Fannie Lou Bates, daughter of the late Leon and the late Willow Dean Abernathy, was born on November 25, 1950, in Russellville, Alabama. She departed this walk of life on August 18, 2025, at her residence surrounded by family and friends.
Fannie was a member of College Avenue First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, worked on the Baptizing Committee and also worked on the Kitchen Committee. She was an employee of H.D. Lee for many years. She was also a member of Golden Chapter #16 Order of Eastern Star.
Fannie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wash Bates, the love of her life.
Her memories will be cherished by her 3 children, daughter Mary (Robert) Hillman of Russellville, son Elder (Patrice) Bates and daughter, Selma (Andrew) Armstead, both of Tuscumbia, who loved her dearly; her loving grandchildren, Evodnee, Anquinette (Larry), Derell, Jermaine (Heather), Tanesha (Demarius), Kwamisha, Isiah, Addy, Jazlyn, Constance, Sir and Jah; a host of great-grandchildren; and one special sister-in-law Cardelia (Jack) Dale.
