Thomas Burns Fleming, age 89 of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Florence Nursing & Rehab Center.
Burns owned and operated Fleming Texaco for many years, before working in excavating and later the Alabama Highway Department. He loved all the years at the Texaco store, made many friends, enjoyed their company and made a lot of good memories hanging out at the store. He enjoyed playing baseball himself and especially watching the Atlanta Braves baseball and knew all of the baseball stats. He was a very hard worker and always wanted to take care of everyone and was such a good caretaker of his wife, Shirley. He was sharp as a tac and still made a point to send each one of his family a birthday card for their birthdays. The family will cherish the many memories made over the years.
He was preceded in death his loving wife of 47 years Shirley Fay King; parents, Charlie Wesley & Ruby Adelaine (Kimbrough) Fleming; siblings, Charlie Grady Fleming, Hattie Adren, Margie Baker; and nephew, Phillip Baker.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Jeff Fleming (Dana), Sharon Berlin (Phillip); grandchildren, Amy Sanderson (Jeremy), Leslie Watts (Edward), Patrick Fleming (Abby), Luke Huckaba (Mary Ann); great-grandchildren, Brodie Sanderson, Cole Fleming, Cooper Fleming, Edison Watts, Eloise Watts, Owen Huckaba; nephew, Tim Baker; close friends, Bobby Bolton, Billy Williams; and a host of cousins and other friends.
The visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Jeff Fleming speaking at the service. The burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Luke, Edward, Jeremy, Patrick, Brodie, and Phillip.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Florence Nursing & Rehab, as well as the nurses and care partners at North Alabama Medical Center 4th and 5th floor.
