Mary Nell Ezell, of Athens, passed away peacefully at her son’s residence on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on April 24th, 1930, in Limestone County, she was the daughter of Sam and Beatrice Holland Tennison.
Throughout her life, Mary was known for her kindness, dedication, and community spirit. Her legacy is one of love and service, as she dedicated her time at the Birdie Thornton Center as a Teacher’s Aide. She enjoyed driving a school bus for the Limestone County School System. Her passion extended to her love for Texas A&M football and her joy in exploring yard sales and thrift stores.
Mary’s life was marked by her deep love for her family. She leaves behind her children, Steven D. Ezell and his wife Angela, and Grant Ezell. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Jason Ezell and his wife Rebecca, Will Ezell, Adam Ezell, and Stephanie Davis and her husband Troy—as well as her great-grandchildren, Stephen Ezell, Landon Ezell, Travis Ezell, and Sonny Williams. Additionally, she is survived by several nieces and nephews who cherished her presence in their lives.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Estill F. Ezell, and her step-father W.W. Weatherford.
To honor Mary’s memory, her family has chosen to hold a private graveside service. Her absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege to know her, and her memory will forever be a guiding light to those she has left behind. Mary Nell Ezell was a special lady, loved by many, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her warmth and generosity.
