Celebrating the Life of JoAnn Noe Blakney who was born in Freeburn, KY, April 16,1933. She completed her journey of Life at home in Scotts Hill, TN with family at her bedside on Monday, August 11, 2025. Her parents, the Late Fannie Johnson and the late Patrick Noe, died when she was age 3, therefore her grandparents, the late Seymor Johnson and the late Mary Johnson, raised her along with her late sister, Wynna Faye Mounts, late brother Archie Hall, and late cousin Jesse Hall. They lived behind her Late Aunt Bessie and her family and she was very close to and loved all of her aunts and cousins.
She loved going to school, loved to read and color, and she had many friends. She graduated from Phelps High School in 1952, where she was in Pep Club and enjoyed riding the school bus. After graduation, she went with her brother to Chicago, IL, where she met her husband, the late Lonnie Blakney. They married in Corinth, MS on July 3, 1954 and they had two daughters there, Teresa and Fayela Gisele. The family moved to Tennessee for a short time and then back to Chicago in 1958. There, they had their son Jeffrey and settled in the suburb of Bridgeview for more than 30 years. They found a lovely church, The Bridgeview Church of God, where they got saved and attended for more than 30 years. They both worked very hard in the church, JoAnn was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary, VBS teacher, worked in Ladies ministries, and she even won Mother of the Year once. She was a great Prayer warrior and her church family was her family.
She also enjoyed working for the Community, as a judge in the elections and volunteering her time in the local Hospital. Upon retirement, they moved to Scotts Hill, TN on August 5, 1996. JoAnn attended Trinity Assembly of God, where she enjoyed the services and activities, especially the Ladies Seminars. She participated in the Scotts Hill Red Hat Ladies where she made many new friends.
Mrs. Blakney was preceded in death by husband, Lonnie N. Blakney; her sister, Wynna Faye Mounts; and her brother, Archie Hall.
She is survived by three children, Teresa Collins (Matthew), Fayela Gisele Blakney, and Jeffrey N. Blakney (Delinda); seven grandchildren who lovingly called her Nanny, Penny McCaslin (Doug), Tiffany Collins, Bethany McCullough (Jared), Brock Blakney, Jase Blakney, Luke Blakney, and Colton Blakney (who was Nanny’s Prayer buddy); and her six great grandchildren: Sky, Mia, Lili, Isabela, Coy, and Cash. She also leaves her Nieces and Nephews whom she loved dearly. Family meant everything to JoAnn. She really enjoyed being a homemaker and did a wonderful job. She was a Super mom, with too many stories to tell. She was a faithful and loving wife, but most of all, she was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all her might and loved to share the gifts that God had blessed her with. She was sweet, stern, and funny, and made everyone feel special as her eyes twinkled with the Glory of the Lord. Her desire would be that all of us would fall in love with Jesus, live for Him, and be ready for His coming soon. See you in Heaven!
Graveside services are scheduled for 12 PM, Friday, August 15, 2025 at Henderson County Memory Gardens in Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
