Ellis Jr. “Squirrel” Taylor

Ellis Jr. “Squirrel” Taylor, 92, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his residence.  He was born in Itawamba County, MS to Ellis and Beulah Butler Taylor.  He worked as the grounds keeper for Redmont Country Club for many years.  He loved to hunt and raise coondogs.  Jr. accepted the Lord as his savior and was baptized at the age of 77.  He loved his family and his wife who passed away last Saturday with him by her side.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 4, 4:30 p.m. at Old Bethel Church with Bro. Terry Paul Graham and Bro. David Kelley officiating.  Visitation will be Monday, August 4, 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Old Bethel Church.  Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery.  Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by five children, Danny Taylor (Debby), Donna Prien (Larry), Tim Taylor (Liz), Randy Taylor (Pam) and Debra Nichols (Mike); grandchildren, Dannielle Taylor, Brady Taylor, Kohlton Taylor, Timothy Prien, Patrick Prien (Meghann), Andrew Taylor (Sarah), Chelsea Judd and Bradley Nichols (Lauren) and twenty-one great grandchildren; his brother, Dudley Taylor and sisters, Earnestine White, Willadean Leathers, Nell Warren, Kathleen Smithey and Linda Cox.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Taylor; grandchildren, Daniel and Dannon Taylor; great-grandchild, Cameron Taylor; granddaughter-in-law, Brandy Prien; sisters, Leelar Engalls, Virginia Shirley, Elaine White and brothers, James Taylor, Dexter Taylor, L.E. Taylor, Vester Taylor and Billy Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Taylor, Patrick Prien, Timothy Prien, Bradley Nichols, Brady Taylor and Mike Nichols.
