DECATUR – The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Northeast Alabama Brigade, invites the public to attend the 2025 Battle for Decatur, a Civil War reenactment and living history event taking place Friday through Sunday, August 29–31, 2025, at Point Mallard Park (2901 Point Mallard Dr., Decatur, AL). Admission is free.
Hosted by the 1st Division/SRA and supported by Camp 580 “Decatur Sons of Liberty,” this three-day event celebrates Southern heritage through reenactments, history displays, and educational programs. The event kicks off Friday with a School Day Program from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offering a unique opportunity for students to engage with living history demonstrations. Saturday and Sunday battles will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Participants and attendees will include members of SCV camps across the Northeast Alabama Brigade, with camps from cities including Huntsville, Cullman, Athens, Guntersville, Blountsville, Scottsboro, Hartselle, and Sylvania.
“Our mission is to preserve and honor Southern history while providing an immersive and educational experience for all ages,” said Adjutant Larry Thomson of Camp 580. “We invite the public to join us for a weekend of remembrance, camaraderie, and heritage.”
The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 580 meets monthly on the fourth Monday at 6:00 p.m. (January–October) at 2813 Old Moulton Road in Decatur, AL. Guests are welcome.
