Surrounded by the love of her children and the physical presence of her son, Rebecca June (Meherg) Talley, age 81, stepped into the presence of her Savior. Her passing took place on July 17, 2025 at 1:33 a.m. from Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Rebecca was born to the late Richard Lemmy Meherg and the late Lena Bell (Melhorn) Meherg on June 9, 1944 in Haleyville, Alabama. Rebecca married Arthur Talley, Jr. on November 28, 1961.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings James Meherg, Faye Carr, Bobby Meherg, Megnia Terry, and Billie Jo Livingston. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Talley Jr., and children Dr. Robert (Dawn) Talley of Lynchburg, VA, Lucretia (Donnie) Echols of Cullman, Alabama, Carla Huddleston of Decatur, Alabama, Missionary Michael (Marsha) Talley of Koenigs-Wusterhausen, Berlin, Germany, Dr. Deborah (John) Secord of Lincoln, North Dakota, Pastor David (Tonya) Talley of Hurlock, Maryland, Rev. Stephen (Talitha) Talley of Crossville, Alabama, Sarah (Doug) Crosby of Clarksville, Tennessee, 26 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, her brother John Meherg, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rebecca was a 1962 graduate of Eva High School and earned an Associate’s Degree in Christian Education from Dothan Theological Seminary. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years prior to becoming a pastor’s wife. She loved reading her Bible and spending time with her Savior.
Until recent summers, Rebecca assisted her son at farmers markets all across Northern Alabama, earning a reputation for her delicious jams, jellies, and cobblers, along with her sweet spirit. She exhibited unconditional and sacrificial love for her children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 11:00 at Daniel’s Chapel Baptist Church in Eva, Alabama followed by the burial in the Church Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be her grandsons Philip Talley, Matthew Terry, Joshua Talley, John Talley, Eli Talley, Gavin Talley, Jonathan Crosby, and great grandson, Jacob Anderson. Honorary Pall Bearers are grandsons Carl Huddleston, Joseph Huddleston, Patrick Talley, Graham Talley, Eric Crosby, and Maverick Secord.
