Mary Elizabeth Sockwell Quinn, born on February 9, 1935 in Franklin County, Alabama, passed away on July 9, 2025 at Burns Nursing Home, surrounded by loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11th from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.at Bethsaida Baptist Church, Russellville. At 2:00pm, a funeral service will follow, officiated by Brother Stanley Hargett. Interment will be at Bethsaida Cemetery.
A fixture of the Bethsaida community, Mary Elizabeth Quinn — known to family and close friends as “Mamaw” — lived a life of love and compassion that was felt by everyone she knew during her 90 years on this Earth.
Over the years, Mary and her husband Billy became staples in the community, often providing help to those that needed it — and even to those who weren’t even looking for it. She often shared words of the gospel and was resilient in her faith in God, which in turn radiated throughout the community and to those she came in contact with.
Mary was one of the lone Auburn football fans among her family, but that didn’t matter when Saturdays rolled around as she was always proud to call herself a fan — even if Billy rooted for whatever team the Tigers were playing against, just to jokingly aggravate her a little.
When she wasn’t spending time watching Auburn football or spending time with family, Mary could be found tending to her flowers — which she was always so proud of — or traveling across the country while making lasting memories with those closest to her.
While her passion for Auburn football, her flowers and traveling was strong, nothing could compare to the love and dedication she had for her friends, family, church community and her faith. Whether it be hosting her children and even great-great-grandchildren for the holidays or simply visiting with her fellow church members, Mary was happiest when she was surrounded by those she loved.
While her family is saddened by her passing, we know she and Billy — along with a host of family and friends who have gone on before them — are reuniting at last, which brings peace and comfort to us knowing our Mamaw is still surrounded by those she loved.
