Mrs. Clara Louise Porter Hicks was born May 10, 1957 to her parents the late Mr. Willie Bumphus and Mrs. Gertrude Lofties Walker in Savannah, TN. Mrs. Hicks spent her childhood in Clifton, TN, attending school and graduating from Frank Hughes High School the Class of 1975. She would continue in life marrying Mr. William Turner Hicks in the year of 1973 and the two would remain married until his passing in 2021. They chose Waynesboro, TN as their forever home, sharing their lives and hearts together and raised their two children in their loving home. Mrs. Hicks understood the importance of work and caring for her family as she spent over 35 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Wayne County Nursing Home. In addition to being an excellent care giver, she demonstrated her love and nurturing nature for those around her was with the delicious cakes for those fortunate enough to have enjoyed her culinary talent. Mrs., Hicks enjoyed cooking and loved watching the happiness her carefully prepared food gave others. Mrs. Clara being a spiritually minded woman, was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Clifton attending services when she was able. Those who knew her best will always remember her as the caring, nurturing, strong and loving wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother that stitched the fabric of her family together that remains to this day. Mrs. Clara Louise Porter Hicks passed from this life in Nashville, TN on July 06, 2025 making her stay upon this earth some 68 years, 1 month and 27 days.
Those left to honor her memory include her children Eric Hicks of Waynesboro, TN and Tanisha Hicks of Linden, TN; sister Phylis Maxey of Elyria, OH; grandchildren Eriq Hicks of Lawrenceburg, TN, Keosha Yarbrough, Mia Yarbrough, Takia Yarbrough all of Linden, TN, Zaylee Hicks of Collinwood, TN, Winston Tate Anderson and Quinton Anderson both of Lawrenceburg as well as many other family, friends and loved ones.
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Hicks will be held Saturday July 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro, TN with Reverand Cross officiating.
Visitation with the family will begin Saturday July 12, 2025, at the Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Waynesboro, TN from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm.
In accordance with her final wishes the family has elected for her body to be cremated after services on Saturday.
