Homicide Investigation Underway in the New Market area

MADISON COUNTY– In the early morning of Sunday, July 6, 2025, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting scene at a residence in the 200 block of Bent Creek Lane in New Market. The call came in at approximately 1:15 a.m., reporting that an individual had been shot. Sheriff deputies arrived on the scene within minutes and located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies immediately initiated life-saving

measures until HEMSI paramedics arrived. Despite their combined efforts, the victim, identified as 23-year-old Evan Mayomi of Birmingham, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. Following the investigation, detectives arrested Xavier Turner, 31, in connection with the homicide, where he is currently being held in the Madison County Jail without bond in accordance with Aniya’s Law.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
