Charles D. Goodwin Charles Dennis Goodwin, age 85, of Dora, peacefully passed away at his residence on June 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
A devoted man of faith, Charles placed God and his family at the center of his life. He was a retired District Manager with Liberty National Insurance Company and a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church. Charles was known for his warm heart, sharp wit, and unwavering love for those around him.
He took great joy in many of life’s simple pleasures. He was a passionate fan of Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves, and he had a lifelong appreciation for automobiles—both classic and modern. Charles cherished time spent outdoors, especially at the lake, where he found peace in fishing. A dedicated reader, he particularly enjoyed Western novels, which reflected his adventurous spirit and enduring curiosity.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Margene Lawrence; his grandparents, Mannon Goodwin Sr. and Annie Goodwin; and his siblings, Archie Goodwin, Kathlene Jenkins, M.L. Goodwin, Bobbie Segars, and Faye Phillips.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gaye Goodwin; daughters, Terri Scarborough and Nanci Walker (James); grandchildren, Nohealani Naehu-Campbell (Ty), Kanoa Naehu-Craven (Paul), Andrew Walker (Meagan), Jacob Walker, and Joshua Walker (Caitlin); great-grandchildren, Josiah, Elisabeth, and Bo Walker; and his sister, Betty Ayers. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at New Horizon Memorial Chapel, with Andrew Walker and Dr. John Hambright officiating. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the chapel beginning at 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate team at Aveanna Hospice for their exceptional care, and a special thanks to dear neighbors Joe Chance and Larry Davis for their unwavering kindness and support.
