Steven Charles Peters passed from this life on May 18, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 5, 1943, in Buffalo, New York to Fred and Lillian Peters, he grew up in Lyndonville, NY leaving to attend St Lawrence College. After college he went to Officer Candidate School in Newport, RI. He was assigned to the Pentagon in the Office of Naval Operations.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard (Dick) and Stuart, and their wives, Elsa and Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, MaryEllen Guckian Peters; daughter, Cindi Peters Tanner of Huntsville; sons, Brian Steven Peters (Stephanie) of Franklin, TN and Kevin John Peters (Jesse) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Jocelyn Marie Tanner, Oliver Brian Peters, Adeline Jenna Peters, Emily Margaret Peters, Miles Kevin Peters, Flynn Grayson Tanner and Maren Belle Peters. His grandchildren brought him immense happiness and were his pride and joy.
An avid Buffalo Bills fan, his enthusiasm for the team was contagious. He also had a deep passion for watching his children play soccer, baseball, and volleyball. He was a great cheerleader for their teams, his presence could always be heard on the sidelines.
His professional life in Human Resources led the family to move multiple times with the General Dynamics Corp, which is also where he met Mary Ellen at their corporate headquarters in New York City. SCI Systems brought him to Huntsville AL. Later he joined Jacobs Engineering.
He was a dedicated member of the Choir at Holy Spirit Church for many years and later joined the Huntsville Community Chorus.
He leaves behind a large extended family of Peters and Guckians. He thoroughly enjoyed all the family gatherings. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
Funeral services with a celebration of life will be at Holy Spirit Church, 625 Airport Rd, Huntsville AL on August 13, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral mass following at 11:00 a.m.
