John Leighton Stuart, 73, of Arab, AL, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was born at Mutoto Station in the Belgium Congo [currently Democratic Republic Congo (DRC)] Africa. His parents, George Reed Stuart, Jr. and Clara Hammond Stuart were missionaries under the American Presbyterian Congo Mission (ACPM).
Survivors include his wife, Nancy H. Stuart; and son, John Henry Stuart. He was predeceased by son, James Hunt Stuart. Also surviving are sisters, Mary Stuart Nichols (David); MarthaWoods Stuart Johns, Frances Stuart Callicott (Carver); sisters-in-law, Lynne Hunt Burleson (Jim) and Lisa Whitt Holoway (Steve); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
John received his BS in Forestry from Mississippi State University and was the County Forester in Clay County, MS for 30 years.
John was a lifelong Presbyterian and attended the Catholic church with his family. He will be inurned at Good Shepherd Columbarium in Huntsville, AL.
