Malcolm Lynn Smart, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi, after a long illness.
Born on October 21, 1938, in Memphis, Tennessee, Malcolm, affectionately known as Lynn, grew up in Memphis and graduated from Southside High School. He was deeply involved in the Masonic and Scottish Rite organizations and served as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 227. A man of unwavering faith, he was an active member of Boulevard Baptist Church.
In the early 1970s, Lynn moved to Mississippi, where he met and married the love of his life, Lexy Annette Smart (née Tubbs) of Ingomar. Together, they shared over 50 years of marriage, raising a family surrounded by friends, loved ones, and cherished pets in the Ingomar area.
Lynn is survived by his wife Lexy; his sons Jeff Huffstatler, Malcolm Smart, Jr., and Frankie Sullivan; his daughters-in-law Barbara Huffstatler, Carole Smart, and Missy Sullivan; his granddaughters Madison Holcombe (née Sullivan) and her husband Ben Holcombe, Courtney and Casey Huffstatler and his great-grandchildren Briggs Holcombe and Elena, Evan and Ellawyn Emerick.
Lynn had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew him. He loved the classic rock and roll music of the 1950s through the 1970s and never hesitated to dance with joy—regardless of who was watching. He enjoyed premium cigars, a good shot of whiskey, reading, and writing in his journals. His final thoughts reflected his deep love for Lexy and his family and his steadfast faith in Jesus Christ.
Lynn will be remembered for his warm handshakes, heartfelt hugs, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Service will be held Friday, May 16, 2025, at 1PM at Baldwin Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc with Bro. Kevin Smith officiating. Visitation will begin at 11AM. Burail will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.
