Myra Helen Hunkapiller, 86 of Huntsville passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. Known by her family as Helen, she was born March 6, 1939, in Marshall County, the daughter of James Edward Hunkapiller and Fannie Gregg Hunkapiller. She had a love for animals, especially cats, dogs and cardinals. She greatly enjoyed photography, beginning her collection of photos when she was quite young. Helen appreciated music, but country music was her favorite. She delighted in having parties for her great nieces and nephews and ensured that each of them left with a party gift. She had a good sense of humor and sang funny songs to her nieces as she cared for them during the work week. She also enjoyed sewing, making her own clothes and creating quilts. Growing up with three uncles who were Methodist ministers, she identified as being Methodist, however, she also had a brother and two brothers-in-law who were Baptist ministers and enjoyed attending their services as well. Helen was a unique person and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two half-sisters: Linda Hunkapiller and Debbie Hunkapiller; two half-brothers: Joe Hunkapiller and Johnny Hunkapiller; four nephews and nine nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents: James Edward and Fannie Hunkapiller; four sisters: Mildred Lenora White, Ora Wynell Hawes, Virginia Faye McMillan and Nina Sue Staggs; a brother: Edward Neal Hunkapiller.
Graveside Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Red Apple Cemetery in Boaz with Bryan Brooks officiating, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
