Jan L. Henderson, 85, of Harvest, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
Born in Huntsville, Jan dedicated her life to service—both professionally and personally. Shortly after graduating high school, she began a long and distinguished career at Huntsville Hospital, where she worked for 47 years and retired as Director of the Business Office. She was known for her strong work ethic, leadership, and kind spirit.
Jan was married to her beloved husband, David Earl Henderson, for 56 years. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
She cherished time with her daughter and grandchildren, especially shopping trips and family gatherings. She also enjoyed road trips and had a special gift for hospitality—whether hosting family, friends, or co-workers. Jan’s faith was central to her life. She grew up attending West Huntsville Baptist Church and later became a devoted member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and shared her love for Christ.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her parents, Cecil and Leanoa Hudson.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Smith (Ricky); grandchildren, Scarlett Smith (Chase), Amanda Riddle (Greg), Cortney Owen (David), and Richard Austin Smith; great-grandchildren, Mac, Baylor, Avery Addeline, Finley, and Dylan; her brother, Perry Hudson; and many loving cousins, friends, and extended family.
Visitation will be Friday, May 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 228 Mount Zion Road, Huntsville, AL 35757, with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Dr. Kevin Moore. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery.
Great-grandson, grandsons-in-law, and great-nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Zion Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Jan Henderson.
