DANVILLE-The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots-fired call at approximately 1:00 PM on April 8, 2025, in the 2000 block of County Road 200 in Danville, Alabama. Deputies arrived on the scene and found an unresponsive male subject lying on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds.
The deputies immediately secured the area and detained two individuals who were present at the scene. One of the detained individuals, identified as 32-year-old Dustin Joel Baker of Danville, admitted to being the shooter. Baker claimed that he acted in self-defense and stated that he had called 911 after the shooting occurred.

Both Baker and the second individual were transported to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. After further investigation, the collection of evidence, and witness testimonies, Baker was charged with Murder. As of now, no bond has been set.
The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Jacob Lee Palmer of Danville. According to Lawrence County Coroner Scott Norwood.
Palmer had visited the residence where the incident occurred, and an altercation took place between him and Baker. It is believed that Palmer attempted to flee when he was shot in the front yard near his vehicle.
Sheriff Sanders extends his gratitude to the Moulton Police Department, the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office, and the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in this ongoing investigation.
