Donna Sutton Hennigan passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after a heartbreakingly short but fiercely brave battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family.
Donna retired from the state of Alabama after 30 years of service at the Lurleen B. Wallace Center. A gifted baker, she was known for her sweet treats. No family celebration was complete without her signature desserts.
She shared her life with her beloved husband of 19 years, Sean Hennigan. Together, they gave love and shelter to 61 abandoned or neglected dogs over the years, offering them safety and a second chance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Sutton and Ellen Sutton; sister, Terri Oliver; and her faithful companion, Tater.
She is survived by her husband Sean; sister, Patti Pietrowski; mother-in-law, Judy Hennigan (who she affectionately called Ma); and cherished rescue Bubba, who only she could pet. She is also survived by her nieces Heather Weaver and Jenny Bowers; nephews, Ryan Pietrowski and Dalton Kerby; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jason and Denise Kerby.
We would like to thank Dr. Priyadarshi, PCU staff at Vanderbilt Wilson, and Alabama Hospice of the Shoals. Donna’s family misses her wicked sense of humor and compassionate, giving heart.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude.
