Barbara Patton Chandler, a devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2025, at the age of 89, surrounded by her family and devoted caregivers. She was a native of Huntsville and was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Bruce Patton and Sara Lanza Patton, as well as a special uncle, Pat Lanza. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jimmy Chandler; children, Terry Lynn Killian, Jay Chandler (Valerie) and Martha Ann Haraway (Jim); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, also her best friends, Martha Marsh (Norman), Linda Henry (Ron) and Catherine Yarbrough (Roy); and a special cousin, Phyllis Ledford.
Barbara graduated from Huntsville High School in 1953 before attending the University of Alabama. She served as a government civilian working at George C. Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S Army Missile Command until she retired in 1988. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority. Barbara enjoyed time spent with the love of her life traveling, decorating, going to the SEC basketball tournament, and watching the Atlanta Braves.
Barbara was a dedicated member of Our Lady, Queen of the Universe Church for over 55 years where she helped start The Queen Bees and was proud to serve on the financial committee for the construction of Joy Hall.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Maple Hill Cemetery.
