We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved brother, Dr. Gerald T. Baker, Professor Emeritus of entomology at Mississippi State University.

Gerry was born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada and was a Mississippian by choice. Born in January 1954, he was the son of the late Ted and Louise (Kiec) Baker. He received his bachelor’s degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, his master’s degree from Carleton University in Ottawa and his doctorate from Oregon State University.

Gerry was predeceased by his parents and sister, Anne Louise. He was profoundly loved and will be greatly missed by his siblings, Terrance (Carol) Baker, Jo-Anne (Francis) Wall, Jean Annette (Richard) White and Gary (Patricia) Baker. Gerry is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his immediate family, Gerry will be missed by his current and former colleagues, students and long-time friends from Nova Scotia, M.S.U. and Thailand.

We would like to acknowledge the care and compassion Gerry received during his illness. All the exceptional nurses and Dr. Kessey at OCH Regional Medical Center as well as Dr. Alnas of the Baptist Cancer Center.

A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Starkville.

Per Gerry’s wishes, a funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Polish church in Whitney Pier, Sydney, Nova Scotia at a later date.
