Robert “Rock” Glen Holt, Sr. of Priceville, formerly of Huntsville, passed away at the age of 86 on January 26, 2025.

Rock was a 1956 graduate of Giles County High School in Pulaski, Tennessee and served in the US Army as a Military Policeman for three years.

As Director of the Police Athletic League, he was active in supporting the boxing and basketball programs and spent many years coaching. Rock and his family coached many city championships at Stone Middle School before leading the Butler High School Lady Runnin’ Rebs Basketball Team to three consecutive state championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as well as a 1999 National Championship. After retiring from coaching at Butler High, he coached Women’s Basketball at Sewanee for two years.

For over 20 years he worked as an insurance broker and was recognized on several occasions as a top producer.

Rock was a member of Holmes Street Methodist Church for over 50 years. His faith was an integral part of his life, and he enjoyed serving the Huntsville Community. He was very active in Emmaus.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 59 years, Linda Ervin Holt: son, Robert “Bobby” Glen Holt, Jr.; granddaughters, Taylor Holt, and Abbey Holt; brother, Jerry Holt (Melody); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert “Bugg” M. Holt and Elaine Roberson Holt.

Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday, January 31, at Holmes Street United Methodist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorials be given to Holmes Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 501 Holmes Ave, Huntsville, AL 35801 or to a charity of your choice.
