On January 23, 2025, Brenda Faye Bankston Morris, much loved wife, mother, Mimi, and sister of five siblings passed away peacefully in Huntsville, Alabama.

Brenda was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on August 24, 1950, to Calvin Bankston, Sr. and Gladys (Temple) Bankston. Brenda graduated from Louisiana Tech University on March 15th of 1973, alongside her husband Jim on the same evening. Brenda met her husband Jim on February 19, 1969, and they were married on August 26, 1972, which was Jim’s mother’s birthday. Brenda and Jim had one daughter, Rebecca Morris Rowan of Chapin, South Carolina.

Brenda was baptized as a young girl at the First Baptist Church in her hometown of Zachary, Louisiana. Brenda was a passionate and expert seamstress. Her most prized sewing project was making her daughter’s wedding dress entirely by hand, which contained extensive bead work. She drew her own pattern for it and sewed every bead on the dress and train by hand. It was a true labor of love. Brenda also loved to embroider by hand and by machine and enjoyed making crafts of all kinds. She was a talented cook who could improve any recipe whether written or just by taste. Brenda was the happiest when she was taking care of someone else. She always blessed others with her positive and nurturing spirit.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Jim Rowan; two grandchildren, Mya Kathryn and Anna James Faye; and siblings, Loretta (Bankston) Morgan, Rae (Bankston) Cupp, Gayle (Bankston) West, Theresa (Bankston) Howes, and Calvin I. Bankston, Jr.

We will celebrate Brenda’s life on February 14, 2025, in the chapel at the Recreational Outreach Center (7300 Whitesburg Dr.) of Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. with their pastor, David Dye, officiating. Brenda’s family would be honored by your attendance as we celebrate her life.

The family asks that any charitable donations be made to The Mayo Clinic.
