Joyce “Memaw” Simpson of Longview, peacefully went to her heavenly home on January 24, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother and “Memaw” to many, but “Kitten” to just one. She was a longtime member of Longview Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and thoroughly enjoyed helping with vacation Bible school on many occasions.

She is survived by her children Debra (Rick) Greer, Teresa (Frankie) Thompson, Jamie (Angie) Simpson; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Bilbo Davis, and 2 sisters, Jerry Gustavsen and Carolyn Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, and adopted family members all over.

She was preceded in death by her husband James H Simpson; her parents Hubert and Vera Davis; and her sister Jeannie Diermnann.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer Taylor who provided the best of care and unwavering love to her. They would also like to thank her hospice nurses and caregivers, Melissa & Leslie.

Visitation will be held at Welch Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., with services to follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. A private family burial will take place at Egger Cemetery in Caledonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to: T.K. Martin Center, P.O. Box 9736, Mississippi State, Ms 39762.
