Sheri Lynn Sims (née Peters), age 65, of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away on January 15, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born February 11, 1959 in Los Angeles, California to Floyd T. Peters and Sally Montague. Sheri was a loving, devoted wife to her husband David Sims, and mother to her two daughters, Dion and Deeanna Sims. Sheri spent most of her early life in Southern California, with her brothers and sisters, visiting Guntersville, Alabama during the summer months to stay with her grandmother Bertha Peters. Sheri graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California on June 15, 1978. At the age of 21, Sheri was living on an army base in Okinawa, Japan. In June of 1982, Sheri was unfortunately hit by a vehicle while in Japan, and suffered multiple life-threatening injuries. Sheri spent 4 months comatose and an additional 5 months in the hospital recovering from her injuries, along with spending another 5 years in a rehab facility, having to re-learn how to eat, drink, talk, and walk. Sheri spent that time teaching herself everything all over again, and with multiple surgeries and hard-work, she regained her independence and taught herself how to walk with just the assistance of a cane. After her 5 years in rehab, she moved to Guntersville, Alabama, where she continued to reside until her passing.
Sheri had a courageous and tough spirit and fought through any adversity that came her way. Sheri enjoyed college football, and was a big fan of both Alabama and Auburn football. Sheri also enjoyed watching anything on TV, watching TV was her favorite past-time. Game shows, the news, movies, you name it, she enjoyed it. Sheri had an immense love for animals, shopping, and being a homemaker. Sheri had a contagious laughter that would make you laugh, too, no matter the situation. Her “never quit” attitude inspired everyone around her. Sheri never wavered on her independence and becoming the best version of herself despite the obstacles that life had thrown at her.
Sheri is preceded in death by her husband David Sims, grandparents Ernest and Bertha Peters, parents Floyd T. Peters and Sally Montague, stepmother Nancy Peters, brothers Thomas Shane Peters and Floyd Thomas Peters Jr., and son Randall Scott Peters.
