Delphia Lee Clark, 87, of Littleville, Ala., formerly of Franklin County, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
Visitation was Saturday, May 11, from 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be today, Sunday, May 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Brother Josh Miller, Hershell Lindsey and Lowell Humphries. Burial will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Clark served her Lord faithfully for 63 years as a member of Tharptown Baptist church. During those 63 years, she taught Sunday school for children and adults. Delphia taught elementary school in Lauderdale and Franklin counties for 40 years; 38 of those years were teaching 3rd and 4th grades at Tharptown Junior High. She was a member of the Alabama Education Association and the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association. Spending time with her family was one greatest joys in life. She also enjoyed reading and traveling to many different places in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed watching Alabama football and basketball. She was loved by all she met and never met a stranger. She was known for her friendliness, generosity and giving to others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Clark; father, Grover C. Lindsey; mother, Nancy Ann Lindsey; sisters, Earline Humphries, Ruth Clements and Shirley Smith; and great-niece, Donna Gail Preston.
She is survived by her brother, Hershell Lindsey and his wife, Mary, of Leeds, Ala. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Glenn Humphries, Lowell Humphries, Mary Ann James, Donna Thigpen, Nelda Preston, Deborha Beason, Janet Snyder, Russell Smith, Rachel Meads, Nancy Howell, and Pam Key. She is also survived by great-nieces and -nephews, Beth Hill, Brandi Shewbart, Chris James, Mitzi May, Jimmy Samuel, and John Thigpen, Eric Preston, Caleb and Rebekah Beason, Amy Snyder, Jon and Lindsey Meads, Emily and Timothy Howell. Special great-nieces and -nephews are Sadie Beth, Bradie Kate, Griffin, Sophie, Chandler, Macie, Parker, and Spencer.
Pallbearers will be Chris James, Jimmy Thigpen, Samuel Thigpen, John Thigpen, Caleb Beason, and Eric Preston. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Tharptown Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the ICU and 6th floor of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital.
