Mary Ann Simpson, age 77 of Haleyville, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025 at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Alabama. She was born January 09, 1948 to Everett and Yvetta Strobel. Mary loved bingo, going to auctions and wrestling matches. She was an animal lover, who took in many strays, including people. Mary had numerous dogs, cats, cattle, ducks, turkey and even a horse. She was a loving wife for more than 50 years and helped raise many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as if they were her own. Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where a service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Winston Memorial in Haleyville. Brother Gary Wakefield will officiate. Mary was survived by her husband, Virlin Lee Simpson; sister, Norma Baker; nephews, Bobby (Debbie) Gallup and Jerry Nelson; nieces, Carolyn Hasty, Linda Hunt, Rose (Chris) Hyde, Betty (Gary) Taylor, Terrie Garcia and Carrie Cabello. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Yvetta Strobel; and sister, Dorthey Nelson.
