It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas Edwards Douglass, affectionately known as Ed, who left us on January 9, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on December 10, 1947, Ed was a proud graduate of the Tennessee Military Institute Class of 1965. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a C-130 Aircraft Propeller Repairman, serving honorably in Vietnam. His service to his country was a defining part of his life, and he carried that sense of duty and dedication throughout all his endeavors.
After his military service, Ed spent many years working in the turf and industrial equipment industry before retiring and enjoying time with family and friends. In his retirement, Ed enjoyed working in his yard and indulging in his love for tinkering in his garage. He was always happiest when immersed in a project, whether it was maintaining his cars, his home, or simply enjoying the peacefulness of his surroundings.
A lifelong fan of NASCAR and racing, Ed loved everything about the sport, from the roar of the engines to the thrill of competition. He was also an avid car enthusiast, spending countless hours working on and restoring vehicles. His passion for racing and his knowledge of cars brought him joy and a deep sense of connection to his interests and loved ones.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of over 37 years, Renee Douglass, and their three children: Brad Douglass (Jennifer) of Alabama, Stephen Douglass (Sandra) of Tennessee, and Erica Moore (Kenny) of Florida. He was also the proud grandfather of Grace Douglass (23), John Douglass (20), and Lily Douglass (17), who were the light of his life.
Ed will be remembered for his warm, generous spirit, his love for his family, and his unwavering passion for the things that brought him joy. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with visitation from 10:00 –11:00 AM at the Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel.
