Jo Ann McCartney Nicholas, 73, of Killen, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 at North Alabama Medical Center. Jo Ann was faithfully married to her husband Melvin for 46 years. She had a gentle spirit and spread kindness wherever she would go. She was a blessing to others through her phone calls and cards of encouragement. Her favorite things to do were bird watching, fishing, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed travelling to the mountains and the beach. Jo Ann loved her country and her family wholeheartedly; however, her greatest love was the Lord. She and Melvin worked along with others to establish Eastside Church of Christ in Scottsboro, Alabama. She was a faithful member of Helton Drive Church of Christ.
A visitation will be Thursday, January 9th from 10 – 12 noon at Rogersville Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow in the chapel. Brad Holmes and Wiley Deason will be officiating. Burial will be in Civitan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Huggins, Allen Huggins, Brad Holmes, Parker Holmes, Paxton Holmes, David Ezell, Daniel Ezell and Preston Ezell; honorary pallbearer, Dr. Keith Garrett.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Junior & Catherine McCartney and her husband, Melvin Nicholas. She is survived by her daughters, Jody (Jeff) Huggins and Sara (Brad) Holmes; grandchildren, Allen & Katie Huggins and Parker & Paxton Holmes; sister, Janice (David) Ezell; sisters-in-law, Paula (Jim) Butler and Judy Goin; numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and her pet dog, Princess Leia.
