Mr. Lorenzo Durante Cowan, Jr. Lorenzo Cowan, Jr. was born January 28, 1976, in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Lorenzo Cowan, Sr. and Paulette D’Alessandro. Lorenzo Cowan, Jr. was affectionately known to family and friends by two nicknames, “Lil’ Man” and “Bubby”. He was peacefully called home by our Lord and Savior on December 19, 2024.

Bubby accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was recently re-baptized.  He grew up in Triana, AL where he attended the Madison City school system and worked various jobs before becoming disabled at the age of 24. After being unable to work, he focused on the younger members of his family providing them with continuous guidance and support.  Bubby was very smart and had a knack for “producing”. He recognized the potential in people and had a determination to push them towards their full potential.

Bubby never hesitated to be there for his family and friends whether it was providing transportation, financially or simply a conversation.  He was dedicated to ensuring that family and friends got what they needed to succeed, whether it was directly from him or him reaching out to people that he knew could help. He always wanted to be sure that everyone was “ok” and if they weren’t, he would try and create a plan to make them, or their situation, better.

Bubby was simply a kind and caring person. He had a very infectious laugh and a big bright smile. He loved life and his family and friends.  No matter what he was going through medically, he hung on to joy by way of God, his family and friends.  He never let his medical condition steal his joy. He is sorely missed.

Bubby is preceded in death by his Father, Lorenzo Cowan, Sr.; both Grandfathers: J.D. Cowan and Clarence Hammond, Sr.; both Grandmothers: Needa Mae Fitchard Cowan (Bubby affectionately called her “Needie”) and Naomi Hammond; Uncles: Clarence Hammond, baby Lawrence Cowan, J.D. Cowan, Jr. (Juke), Booker T. Cowan, James Cowan (late sister-in-law Queenie Cowan); and Aunt: Doris Washington (late brother-in-law Willie Joe Washington).

Bubby leaves to cherish his memory many loving family members:  his dear and loving Mother, Paulette D’Alessandro; his loving Pappa, Joe D’Alessandro; his two beloved Sisters: Delphine Cowan and Chantaye Cowan, his beloved Nieces: De’Asia Carson (affectionately nicknamed “deediebopbop”), Kassidy and Karlisa; two Brothers: Clifton D’Alessandro (Ally) and Tony D’Alessandro (Stephanie), two Nephews: Cameron and Conrad;  a  Sister-n-law, Ashley Neisler; four “Second Moms”: Barbara Jackson, Mary Hammonds, Mary Rogers; and his Aunt, and special caregiver, Phyllis Cowan.

He also leaves to cherish his memory two Aunts: Reola Hammond and   Daisy Cowan; Uncles: Carl Hammond (late aunt Freda), OBrien Hammond (Pat), Nathan Hammond, Eric Hammond (Tracy), Ron Jackson (Inna) and Ernest Cowan (Jackie); Great Aunts: Alberta Harris, Reola Williams, a special great aunt and caregiver, Georgia Caudle-Ayers; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
