Julia Irene Poston, age 87 of Delmar, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024 at her residence. She was born February 28, 1937, to Sim and Catherine Wakefield. Julia was born and raised in Winston County. She enjoyed quilting and Sacred Harp singing (Fa So La). Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where the funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Natural Bridge. Brother Steve Miles to officiate. Julia is survived by her sisters, Faye Donaldson, and Betty Baccus; brother, Larry Wakefield; sons, Allen Hicks, Ronald Hicks, Michael Hicks, Lee Hicks, Roger Hicks, and Howard Poston; fifteen grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and in-laws, Jess Hicks, Jean Hicks, and Lucy Motts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sim and Catherine Wakefield; brothers, Cecil Wakefield, Gene Wakefield, Clifford Wakefield, Wilford Wakefield, and Wendal Wakefield, and her sisters, Nadine Willis, Claire Stults, and Helen Langston.
