On December 1, 2024, William Cecil Conard age 98 passed away peacefully at Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veteran’s Home.  He was born on November 12, 1926 in Haywood County, North Carolina to Glenn and Bertha Conard.  He was raised in the mountains of Western North Carolina alongside 6 other siblings.  He enlisted in the Navy during World War II and served in Trinidad as a part of Seebee Unit 559. He married Doria Jane Holloway from Huntsville, Alabama in August 1952.  They had four children, Glenny, Kenneth, Jeff, and Jana. He worked for P.R. Mallory and Owens Corning Fiberglass where he later retired.

He had a great love for going home to the mountains, singing in the church choir, strong black coffee, a good bowl of pinto beans, helping out at church and attending the weekly neighbor’s lunch.  Nothing compared to planting a garden big enough for the whole county and sharing the bounty. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doria Jane Conard; children, Glenny Conard (Deborah), Kenneth Conard (Alyce), and Jana Moody (Mike); grandchildren, Brandon Conard, Sabrina Conard, Amanda Higgins, Chris Brown, Kymberly Guthrie (Craig), Matthew Conard, Brittany Conard, Annie Lee (Chris), Kelly Grogan (Jacob); 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Louise Conard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Bertha Conard; son, Jeffrey Conard; siblings, Raymond Conard, Harrison Conard, John Conard, Wilma Sorrells, Zora Messer, and Hazel Haney.

Visitation will be Friday, December 6, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Hampton Cove Funeral Home.  The graveside service will be Saturday, December 7, 2024, 10 am at Huntsville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veteran’s Home. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the F wing staff at Tut Fann and Hospice of North Alabama.
